VOL. 35 10 Pages MARSHALL, N.C., THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1936 PRICE $1.00 A YEAD BURLEY TOBACCO BRINGING RECORD BREAKING PRICES Farmers Elated Over Prosperity We have yet to see a farmer who has not been well pleased at the prices he has received for his tobac co since the market opened l'ast week. Average prices have been record breaking on all the markets and some of the tops have pone a bove 75 cents per pound. Mr. Saw yer of Ivy, was in Marshall Wed nesday and showed where his sales averaged $45.27 per hundred lbs. Others have done equally as well and even better. A few years ag", if anybody's top best had brought 45c, it would have been a news i tem worthy of publication. The farmers have every re'ison t be thankful that they are now prosper- ' ous, and are now able to pay debts I and even to invest in thing's thev I have needed and wanted for all i these years but could not afford. It is hoped that they will take advan tage of this opportunity to pay off all old debts before investing in something which they could get on sponsibility for Rural Youth"; Thur day, iMiss M'ay Swann, home demon stration agent of Lenoir County, "4-H Club Work in My County"; Friday, C.
